Why do I carve?

I carve because I love trees — always have. From the sprawling mulberries that surrounded my childhood home to the stoic tulip poplars of the Blue Ridge Mountains, trees have shaped my life. I climb them, walk among them, and reverently carve them.

Working mostly with salvaged wood, I’m drawn to its warmth, beauty, and workability. Each piece tells a story — one of time, renewal, and resilience. Wood is the perfect complement to my carving style, which is both loose and expressive, often grounded in themes of love, perseverance, and deep emotion.

In the forest, my heart sings. In the silent language of trees, I listen. And through my work, I hope the songs of Nature may be heard.
